Set your basic selling preferences from 'My Account' under the 'Selling' menu. When you make new listings these fields will automatically populate and speeds up the listing process.
Click on ‘Sell’ in the index of any page you visit. Select the relevant category to list your item and fill in all the required details. Your description of your item is very important. Let buyers know the exact condition and features of your item. If you add honest comments on the condition of your item, it will more likely sell. Choose your selling method, add your pricing, upload your photos and post your listing.
There are several visual effects and listing options available. These are optional and may require a fee.
- HomePage Featured - These listings will be randomly selected to be displayed on our main page.
- Category Featured - The listing will be featured above other items in category listings.
- Gallery Listing - The listing will be featured in the gallery section.
- Highlight Listing - The listing with have a highlighted background to attract attention.
- Bold Listing - The listing title will be displayed with a bold font.
- Video featured - The listing includes a video of the item.
- Qlive Chat Messenger - The listing supports live help via video messenger.
- Hit counter - A free service to help track how many views your listing has received.
- Auto Relist - Automatically relist an unsold item (a multiple item listing that has had at least one sale will not be auto relisted).
The folowing fields are required:
- Category - This is the category and/or sub-category where your listing will be located.
- Title - The title of your listing.
- QuantityThe quantity of goods to be sold or traded.
- Item Location - The location the items will be shipped from.
- Detailed Description - Any information about the item(s) for sale or trade.
- Selling Method - Traditional Auction, Dutch Auction, Fixed Price Listing, Classified Ad, Trade Listing
- Number of Days to Run - The listing duration. If this option is not present, the Seller must enter the Start and/or End dates for the listing. (See below)
- Starting Price - The lowest acceptable price for your listing (unless you specify a Reserve), or the cost of goods for a Fixed Price listing.
Depending on the site configuration, the following fields may also be required:
- Preferred Currency - For international sales, the price of your item will be displayed in this currency.
- Payment Required Up-Front - Payment in full is required before your item will be listed, this includes the accrued balance of final value fees, auto-relist fees, and the current item posting fee.
- End Date - This option becomes available if the Seller is allowed to specify the exact start and end date of the listing.

- Home Page Featured
- Category Featured
- Gallery Listing
- Highlight Listing
- Bold Listing
- PayPal Email - Supply your PayPal email address and a link will be created for the winning bidder(s) to make a payment.
- Shipping Cost - The additional charge for shipping and handling the item(s).
- Who Will Pay Shipping? - Indicate if the Buyer or Seller will pay for the cost of shipping the item(s).
- Auto Relist - Allows you the option of having your items automatically relist if they go unsold (a multiple item listing that has had at least one sale will not be auto relisted).
- Upload Base Image - This is the main image for your listing. This image is used if the "Gallery Listing" feature is selected.
Depending on the site configuration, the following fields may also be optional:
- Start Date - The Seller is allowed to specify the exact start date of the listing.
- Free Extra Images - Additional images that can be added to the listing without extra fees.
- Premium Extra Images - Additional images that can be added to the listing for a fee.
The following options are optional and only available for Traditional Auctions:
- Buy It Now
- Reserve Price
Adding Images - You can add images when you list an item. You can also edit a listing to include additional images. Photos are uploaded from your computer so you need to download them from your digital camera or scan them in using a scanner. Your photo must be saved in .jpeg or .gif format and be smaller than 200kb in size. Adjust your digital camera to take medium to small pictures. Use the instructions that came with your camera. You can also use third party software to make your photos smaller. Please note that you must upload your photo before a bid is made on your auction. You can do this later, but it must happen before anyone has start bidding. Do this through the ‘edit’ icon on the auction-listing page.
Images in .jpg or .gif format.
- .jpg - File format that reduces file size without reducing image quality.
- .gif - Common file format used specifically for web graphics.
To upload an image (while in the process of listing in the 'Sell an Item' form):
- Click "Browse"
- Locate the image file on your computer
- Select the file name
- Click "Open"
To change an image (from the 'Sell an Item' form):
- Check the box marked "Delete"
- Click "Browse"
- Locate the image file on your computer
- Select the file name
- Click "Open"
Photo upload problems?
If you experience any problem uploading your photo and it's not over 200k, open your photo with MS Paint. On your desktop click start >programs >accessories >Paint. To save it again, click on ‘File’ in the left top corner of the paint program and then click ‘save as’. Type a different name than the current name in the box provided and then click on save. Try again to list your item but with the ‘saved as’ version. If this problem continue please e-mail us your photo and we will investigate further. Some photos do not save properly and this will fix the problem.

Shooting A Video: You will need to use your video camera or digital camera to record your movie. You then download the movie to your computer, and upload it to Sell by Vid. We advise to first edit or compress your video with software such as Windows MovieMaker or iMovie to add titles and special effects or just save it in compressed format for speedy uploads.
Uploading:
To upload your video, log in on sellbyvid.com and click on the upload link. Add a title, description, tags (keywords), and choose the video channel. Channels are for grouping the same videos together. On the next page browse to and click the saved movie file, select private or public, and click upload. Private is for your view only and public is for all viewing.
How Long Will It Take?
The time it takes to upload depends on the speed of your computer and Internet connection. If you have a adsl or cable internet connection uploads will be faster than with dialup. Adsl connections are asymmetric with a download speed to your computer normally 5x faster than upload to the internet, so be patient. When completed, you will see a screen that says, your upload was successful.
How do I embed videos from Sell by Vid into my listing?
Login at sellbyvid.com. Click videos on the top index bar. Click on your video and look for the (Share details //) part below the video player where you will find the embedded html code. Simply copy the code (right click on the code).
1. If new listing - Start a new listing. When you get to the detailed description, type the description of your item. To add a video click the "Turn off html editor" link directly below the detailed description box. Below your description of the item, right mouse click and paste the code. Finish the rest of your listing info.
2. Add video to existing listing - Go to the display page of your item. Click the edit item link. Scroll down to the detailed description box. Click the "Turn off html editor" link directly below the detailed description box. Below your description right click and paste the video embed code. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click save changes and then post listing.

How to, with Windows Movie Maker
1. How to compress video
Open Windows Movie Maker and click tasks and import video. Drag and drop the movie to the storyboard at the bottom of the page. Click file (left top corner of movie maker) >Click Save Movie File.
2. How to make one movie of different movie files
Open Windows Movie Maker and click tasks and import videos. Click collections and select the movie. Drag and drop the movies in the correct sequence into the storyboard. Edit the clips if needed. Add title and background music if required. Click file>Save Movie File. Your file will have the *.wmv extension
3. How to Trim
Trim by pulling the end of the clip to the left of your screen that will cut your clip shorter. If you want it longer just pull it back.
4. How to edit clips
In the Timeline view, click on the clip you'd like to trim. In the Preview window, drag the scroll bar slowly and watch as the video progresses. Stop at the point where you want to trim the clip. On the Clip menu, click Set Start Trim Point. Now continue to drag the progress indicator until you reach the desired end point of your clip.
5. How to add audio
In the task pane, click on Import audio or music. Navigate to the music track you'd like to add to your movie. Click on Import.
Click on Show Timeline button in the Storyboard section of your screen. Drag your music track to the Audio/Music level of the Timeline.
Using templates is an easier way to list items if you are a power seller. You can create predefined templates for items you sell. When you need to list an item you can then make adjustments to the template if required and activate it. You can create up to 500 different selling templates.
- Auction and Dutch Auction - The item has recieved 0 (zero) bids
- Fixed Price Listing - 0 (zero) items have been sold
- The listing is a Classified Ad
If a listing has received bids or one of multiple items have sold, the following changes can be made:
- The Seller can append a note to the item description
- Listing Options can be added
To Edit a listing:
- Login to your account
- Access your My Account - Listings Tab - Active menu
- Select the "Selling" tab
- Select [edit item]
- Make changes to available fields
- Click the button "Save Changes"
- End the listing early
To End a listing early (immediately):
- login to your account
- Access your My Account - Listings Tab - Active menu
- Select [edit item]
- Scroll to the bottom of the Edit Item page
- Click the button "End Early"
After you had a successful sale go to 'Successful' under 'Selling' of the 'My Account' menu. Click the create invoice button for the listing and edit any information required. All the invoices you create are stored under 'Sales' 'Invoices' part of the 'My Account' menu. Under this section you can print, e-mail and update invoices with shipment tracking information. This section also helps you manage your sale by marking the process of completion of tasks with progress icons.
Feedback is a very important tool for you to use when buying or selling. Each user is given a feedback rating based on the number of positive and negative comments they receive from other users as they buy and sell. +1 point for a positive feedback, -1 point for a negative feedback, and 0 points for a neutral feedback. Be sure to check a user's feedback before bidding on an item to make sure they are trustworthy. Feedback is displayed in brackets next to the users name. When an item is sold an automated e-mail is send to the seller and buyer providing a feedback link in the e-mail.
Placing Feedback as a Seller
After the transaction is completed, place your feedback. To leave feedback for a user go to 'My Account' and click the leave feedback link under the 'Feedback' menu.
